On the evening of 27th August 1869, a momentous decision was taken by the family that lived at No 9 Pier Road. Dr Charles Ginestet persuaded his wife Jeanne that they should abandon their beautiful home and flee to France to start a new life. They would be leaving behind friends and family but also a nightmare of debts and legal proceeding. The Jersey Tourist Information Centre is located at Jersey Museum & Art Gallery, Merchant’s House. The Story of Jersey has won the Visit England ‘Best Told Story’ Accolade. New to the Story of Jersey exhibition is the illustrated ‘Journal of Jean Chevalier’ iBook. You can read it on an iPad mounted next to the actual 1,000 page manuscript that Jean Chevalier wrote from 1643 to 1651, during the English Civil War. The iBook will tell you about the life and times of Jersey during this tempestuous era. You can also download it onto an Apple device using the iBooks app.
